Dr. Brian D. Coyne

Dr. Brian D. Coyne Dr. Brian D. Coyne currently serves as a healthcare policy consultant after leading federal affairs for two healthcare companies in Washington over a 20-year span. From 2017 through 2022, he headed federal affairs for Magellan Health, a multi-state company engaged in behavioral health, mental health, and addiction services, as well as pharmacy benefit management services. From 2001 through 2014, Brian Coyne led federal government relations operations for Amerigroup, a multi-state managed care plan that provided health care coverage for low-income families and children, low-income seniors, and people with disabilities through the Medicaid and Medicare programs.

Dr. Coyne has spent his professional career in government and politics, including 10 years in various governmental positions. He served as Chief of Staff of the Social Security Administration in the Clinton Administration from 1994 to 2001 and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Rhode Island Governor Bruce Sundlun from 1991 to 1994. He was appointed by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine in 2006 to the Virginia Health Reform Commission, and in 2010, he was appointed to the National Academy of Social Insurance study panel on health insurance exchanges following the passage of the Affordable Care Act. Before his governmental work, he served as Executive Director of the Nebraska Democratic Party and later as Midwest Political Director at the Democratic National Committee during the 1988 presidential campaign.

Dr. Coyne holds a Doctorate in Law and Policy from Northeastern University, a Master's in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in Government from Cornell University.
