Serve at the Memorial
Be part of America’s 250th!
Join a special, stipend-supported volunteer cohort serving visitors at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial during the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
This opportunity is part of the National Mall’s Volunteers-in-Parks program, co-managed by the National Park Service and the Trust for the National Mall, with stipend support provided by the FDR Memorial Legacy Committee. The FDR Memorial Legacy Committee is a proud supporter of and collaborator on the program. Funding for stipends is provided by the Roosevelt Warm Springs Foundation and the FDR Memorial Legacy Committee’s Mike Deland Fund.
Each year, more than three million people visit the memorial. As a volunteer, you’ll play a direct role in helping visitors connect with the history and legacy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt during one of the busiest and most significant moments on the National Mall.

Stipend Opportunity (April – July 2026)
This is a stipend-supported volunteer role designed to expand capacity during the America 250 commemoration. Stipends are only available for service between April 1 and July 31, 2026. You are welcome to continue volunteering after July, but stipends will not be provided beyond this period.
- $25 per completed 4-hour shift
- $25 incentive for completing training
- Each 4-hour shift includes 3-hours on site and 1 hour allocated for transportation
- Up to 8 paid shifts are allowed (32 hours) per month ($200 maximum); however, you are welcome to serve as many shifts as you like.
- $50 monthly bonus for completing all 8 shifts each month. Verification required.
- Also required, to receive your stipend you must complete a short online survey after each shift.
- After you apply, you’ll have a short interview. Once that’s done, you can access the online training. You must complete the training before signing up for shifts. You’ll receive a $25 bonus after finishing the training and providing verification.
Maximum stipend available: $250 per month, plus a one time $25 bonus for completing training = $775
Note: Two 2-hour shifts are equivalent to one 4-hour shift and qualify for the $25 stipend.

Everyone is eligible to apply and be a volunteer. We ask that only those who can benefit from a stipend take advantage of the stipend opportunity.

- Enjoy interacting with people in a public-facing role
- Are punctual, reliable, and comfortable working outdoors

Tracking & Verification
Volunteer hours are tracked through the Volunteer Resume in the Trust for the National Mall portal. You will need to provide documentation of your service to the FDR Memorial Legacy Committee point of contact by sharing a copy of your Volunteer Resume for the month. Stipends are issued only after monthly service has been verified through this system. In addition, you must complete a brief survey after each shift to secure the stipend.
Payment & Tax Information
Payments are issued via ACH, and require a U.S.-based bank account and routing number. If selected for a stipend you will be an independent contractor. No taxes will be withheld from the stipend and the stipend is still taxable at tax season. Appropriate tax forms will be given out at tax season. This position does not include benefits (such as health insurance or retirement plans)
